Rediscovering the Past: A Taste Test of Vintage Barley Wine
During a recent decluttering session, I stumbled upon an intriguing artifact from my past: a bottle of barley wine from High Water Brewing, dating back 10 to 15 years. Given that the brewery may no longer be in operation, I found myself wondering—what are the chances this vintage brew is still palatable?
With curiosity piqued, I decided to open the bottle and embark on a little taste test.

To my surprise, the experience was rather pleasant. The aroma was a touch musty, hinting at its age, but the flavor profile made up for any olfactory shortcomings. Despite the bottle’s years, the carbonation held up reasonably well, albeit with a slight decline.
While I am not a regular barley wine enthusiast, I was eager to explore this unique brew. Perhaps the most reassuring takeaway was that it didn’t have that dreaded taste reminiscent of wet cardboard—a common concern with older beers.
