Discovering the Best of Latvian Craft Beer: A Love Letter to Valmiermuižas
If you’re a beer enthusiast or simply someone who appreciates the artistry behind craft brewing, then allow me to introduce you to a hidden gem from Latvia: Valmiermuižas (pronounced VAL-meer-MWOY-zhahs). This exceptional beer has captured my heart—and my palate. However, what baffles me is the fact that Valmiermuižas is not exported, even to neighboring Western European countries.
Years ago, I had the privilege of residing in Riga, where I indulged in Valmiermuižas on a regular basis. To say I was a fan would be an understatement; it was my go-to beverage for three delightful years. Since then, I’ve explored various regions of Europe, including Italy and Germany, always hoping to find a way to have this craft beer shipped to me. Unfortunately, the logistics of getting Valmiermuižas across borders seem to be a bit complex—the pricing was astronomical, often reaching hundreds of dollars for a mere case. While I look forward to a day when I have the financial freedom to indulge in such luxuries, that day hasn’t yet arrived.
The primary purpose of this post is to shine a spotlight on Valmiermuižas and share my passion for this remarkable beer. If you find yourself in Latvia—or perhaps even in Estonia—do not miss the opportunity to seek out Valmiermuižas. Trust me, it’s an experience worth having.
As I prepare for my upcoming move back to the United States in just a few months, I find myself increasingly skeptical about the chances of obtaining this delightful brew. If I struggled to find it while living in Germany, I can’t help but doubt I’ll have any better luck Stateside.
In closing, here’s my heartfelt recommendation: embark on a quest for Valmiermuižas, savor its unique flavors, and join me in spreading the word about this extraordinary Latvian craft beer! Cheers!
