Discovering Valmiermuižas: The Craft Beer You Need to Try
If you’re a craft beer aficionado, let me introduce you to a hidden gem from Latvia that will soon become your favorite: Valmiermuižas (pronounced VAL-meer-MWOY-zhahs). This artisanal brew has captivated the taste buds of many, but for reasons that baffle me, it remains largely unavailable for export, even to neighboring Western European countries.
During my three-year stint in Riga, I became quite the devotee of Valmiermuižas. To call myself a regular would be an understatement; it was a staple of my daily life. Having since lived in various parts of Europe, including Italy and Germany, I sought to bring this delightful beer closer to my new homes. Unfortunately, my attempts to have it shipped were met with eye-watering shipping costs—think hundreds of dollars for just a case. Maybe someday I’ll have the financial freedom to indulge in such luxuries, but for now, it’s just a dream.
This post serves as an enthusiastic recommendation for all beer lovers, especially those planning to visit Latvia or nearby Estonia. If you find yourself in the region, make it a point to hunt down Valmiermuižas and indulge in its unique flavors.
As I prepare for my upcoming move back to the United States, I can’t shake the feeling that my quest for this exceptional beer may come to a halt. If I struggled to find it in Germany, I have little hope of sourcing it in the U.S.
So, for now, I can only encourage you all to explore this incredible craft beer while you have the chance. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
