PSA: Sam Adams Blueberry Lager is NOT for drinking.

An Honest Review: Sam Adams Blueberry Lager – A Beverage to Avoid

If you’re a fan of trying seasonal brews and you occasionally grab a Sam Adams variety pack, you might be intrigued by their latest offering – the Blueberry Lager. I recently got my hands on the summer variety pack and was hopeful that this lager would deliver a delightful blueberry taste, similar to what you might find in some other well-regarded blueberry ales, like those made by Wachusett. However, my experience was far from what I expected.

Upon my first sip, I was taken aback. Instead of the refreshing blueberry flavor I anticipated, it felt as though I was drinking a mix of NyQuil and a generic light beer. The taste was overwhelmingly off-putting, leaving me with a sensation that was difficult to swallow – quite literally in my case.

Interestingly, my wife had a different take; she managed to finish my glass, which left me wondering if she was genuinely enjoying it or simply making an effort to spare me from a second sip. Perhaps she knows me too well; I have a reputation for grumbling about my drink choices while trying to avoid wasting perfectly good beer.

If you’re considering trying the Sam Adams Blueberry Lager, my recommendation would be to think twice. It’s certainly an acquired taste, and not one that I would choose to experience again. Instead, I’ll be sticking to other seasonal brews that have proven to be a much more enjoyable investment. Save your palate and your taste buds – this one may not be worth it.
