Finding the right opportunity in the competitive world of wine sales can feel like an uphill battle, especially in a vibrant market like New York City. After spending several fulfilling years as a bar manager at a beloved restaurant in Williamsburg and obtaining my WSET Level 2 certification, I’ve decided to embark on a new path in wine sales. My background also includes contributions to esteemed publications like The Drink Nation and Star Chefs, where I explored the intricate relationship between food and wine.
Before the pandemic hit, I eagerly participated in influential portfolio tastings with esteemed distributors such as David Bowler, Skurnik, Jenny & François, and Selection Massale. These experiences deepened my passion for natural wines and solidified my ambition to work for a reputable natural wine company in New York City within the next five years.
Despite my qualifications, I’ve encountered a challenging job search characterized by a surprising roadblock: the emphasis on retail sales experience. As I humbly approach this new chapter in my career, I find it disheartening that my lack of direct retail experience seems to overshadow my extensive knowledge and background in the wine industry.
