Discovering the World of Beer: A Newbie’s Journey
As someone who has largely avoided the world of beer, I find myself eager to explore this vast landscape of flavors and brews. My previous encounters with beer have left me unimpressed, often reminiscent of either something akin to dishwater or overly bitter concoctions that simply aim to induce intoxication. That said, I have stumbled upon a few varieties that piqued my interest, and now I’m on a quest to expand my palate even further.
After delving into various guides aimed at newcomers to the beer scene, I found myself overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information. While these resources provided me with insights into the differences between beer styles, they didn’t quite help me gauge which options align with my taste. My primary aversion seems to be towards overly bitter beers, though I’m not looking for options that are entirely sweet or fruity either.
To guide my exploration, I thought it might be beneficial to share a summary of the beers I’ve tried thus far, detailing what I found enjoyable and what I did not.
Beers I Really Didn’t Enjoy:
- Budweiser: Salty, with a taste I just couldn’t appreciate.
- Bud Light: Its bitterness coupled with a salty note was off-putting.
- Coors Light: Extremely bitter—definitely not my preference.
- Yuengling Black and Tan: Heavy in flavor and too bitter for my liking.
- Shock Top: I attempted to enjoy this pumpkin wheat beer, but the bitterness struck again.
Beers I Can Tolerate:
- Corona: Lacks flavor, but a splash of lime brings it to life.
- Pacifico: An odd mix that reminded me of half a Corona and some seawater.
- Miller Lite: Initially, this was my go-to, but I’ve since discovered better options.
Beers I Enjoy:
- Guinness: Delightfully creamy and slightly sweet, though it fills me up quickly.
- Sam Adams and Sam Adams Light: This brand has impressed me—all around solid, with a preference for the light version.
- Michelob Amber Bock: Currently my top pick for a flavorful yet not too heavy beer.
- Land Shark: Picked this up on a whim at a recent party, and it surprised me with its smoothness and drinkability!
