Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting a trendy new bar where I ordered a Belgian gueuze. To my surprise, the bartender didn’t stumble over the name; instead, she confidently pronounced it “the guhz is excellent.” This small yet impressive detail immediately set her apart from the typical experiences I’ve had, where many bartenders either avoid the pronunciation or mispronounce it entirely.
Not only did she nail the name, but she also enthusiastically discussed the wild fermentation process behind the beer, adding a delightful context that deepened my appreciation for the drink. As if that weren’t enough, she even suggested complementary cheese pairings without me having to ask.
