Discovering the Delight of Valmiermuižas: A Craft Beer Enthusiast’s Treasure
If you’re on a quest for exceptional craft beer, then allow me to introduce you to an undiscovered gem: Valmiermuižas (pronounced VAL-meer-MWOY-zhahs), a remarkable brew from Latvia that has captured my heart. Despite its fantastic reputation, I find it perplexing that this splendid beer is not readily available for export, even to neighboring western European countries.
Reflecting on my time in Riga, where I indulged in Valmiermuižas for three years, it’s safe to say my appreciation for this brew transcended mere casual enjoyment. I was not just a drinker; I was a devoted fan. Since my time in Latvia, I’ve explored various European nations—Italy and Germany among them—only to discover the challenge of acquiring my beloved beer. My attempts to arrange shipments have proven costly, often exceeding hundreds of dollars for just a case. Perhaps one day I’ll have the financial freedom to indulge, but for now, that dream remains distant.
The primary intention of this blog post is to share my enthusiasm for Valmiermuižas with fellow craft beer lovers and encourage anyone visiting Latvia—or possibly Estonia—to seek it out and savor its unique flavor profile.
As I prepare for my upcoming move back to the United States, I can’t help but feel anxious about the availability of this extraordinary beer on American soil. If I struggled to secure it while living in Germany, I am not optimistic about finding it in the U.S.
So, if you happen to be in Latvia, make it a point to experience Valmiermuižas. It might just become your new favorite brew, and who knows? You might end up becoming my next best friend!
