Discovering the Hidden Gem of Latvian Beer: Valmiermuižas
When it comes to craft beer treasures, few can match the unique appeal of Valmiermuižas (pronounced VAL-meer-MWOY-zhahs). This incredible Latvian brew has captured the hearts of many, yet remains elusive, as it is not exported beyond its borders, even to neighboring Western Europe.
Reflecting on my time in Riga, where I spent three glorious years as a Valmiermuižas enthusiast, I can confidently say that my appreciation for this beer went far beyond mere enjoyment; I became a devoted aficionado. Having since explored various regions in Europe, including Italy and Germany, I found myself yearning for that same taste from my bygone days in Latvia. However, my attempts to order it overseas proved to be a futile endeavor, as the pricing for a case was in the hundreds—far from feasible for a casual beer lover. Perhaps one day a windfall will allow me to indulge, but for now, it remains a distant dream.
