Discovering Valmiermuižas: A Hidden Gem for Beer Lovers
If you’re passionate about craft beer, there’s a treasure hiding in Latvia that you simply must experience: Valmiermuižas (pronounced VAL-meer-MWOY-zhahs). This exceptional brew has captured my heart, yet, puzzlingly, it remains largely unavailable for export, even to the nearby markets of Western Europe.
My journey with Valmiermuižas began during my three-year stay in Riga, where indulging in this delightful beer became a cherished routine. Calling myself a regular would be an understatement! After moving to Italy and Germany, I attempted to locate this beloved beverage but was met with frustration. Attempts to arrange shipping have proven futile, with prices soaring into the hundreds of dollars for a mere case. While I dream of the day when I might have the luxury of “F.U. money,” that time is not yet at hand.
The purpose of this post is to shine a spotlight on Valmiermuižas, encouraging all beer enthusiasts and travelers heading to Latvia—or even Estonia—to seek it out and savor its unique flavors.
As I prepare for my upcoming relocation back to the United States in a few months, I can’t help but feel doubtful about finding this gem in the American market. So, if you’re planning a trip to the Baltics, do yourself a favor—make it a mission to discover the magic of Valmiermuižas. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you!
