Discovering Valmiermuižas: The Craft Beer You’ll Want to Make Friends With
If you consider yourself a beer enthusiast, allow me to introduce you to a hidden gem from Latvia: Valmiermuižas. This remarkable craft beer is not only a local favorite, but it also holds a special place in my heart. However, despite its excellence, it’s perplexing to me why it remains elusive, with no export options even extending to Western Europe.
Reflecting on my time in Riga, where I spent three wonderful years, I became quite the aficionado of Valmiermuižas. I indulged in this exquisite beer regularly, and it quickly became my go-to choice. Since then, I’ve traveled across various parts of Europe, including Italy and Germany, making multiple attempts to get my hands on a few cases. Unfortunately, the overwhelming shipping costs—often hundreds of dollars—proved to be a significant hurdle. While I hope to one day embrace the luxury of purchasing whatever I desire, that day has not yet arrived.
My intention with this blog post is to shine a light on this exceptional brew and urge fellow beer lovers planning a trip to Latvia (or possibly Estonia) to seek it out. Valmiermuižas is a taste experience that shouldn’t be missed.
As I prepare to relocate back to the United States in a few months, I find myself doubting my chances of finding this remarkable beer once I land. If I struggled to source it while residing in Germany, I can’t imagine it being readily accessible Stateside. If you do come across it, consider yourself fortunate, and raise a glass for me! Cheers to new friendships over great beers!
