Discovering Valmiermuižas: A Craft Beer Enthusiast’s Hidden Gem
If you’re an aficionado of quality craft beers, then let me introduce you to a superb option from Latvia: Valmiermuižas (pronounced VAL-meer-MWOY-zhahs). This remarkable brew has captivated my palate, yet it’s perplexing that it’s not available for export, even to neighboring countries in Western Europe.
My journey with Valmiermuižas began during my three-year residency in the vibrant capital city of Riga. There, I developed a deep appreciation for this fantastic beer, indulging in it far more often than most would consider normal. It became a staple in my life, one that I fondly reminisce about even as I’ve traveled and lived in other parts of Europe, including Italy and Germany.
In my quest to obtain Valmiermuižas outside of Latvia, I discovered the unfortunate reality: shipping prices are astronomical. I’ve inquired multiple times about ordering a case, only to find that the cost would exceed hundreds of dollars. For now, acquiring it remains a dream, possibly reserved for the day I possess enough disposable income to warrant such an expense.
The purpose of this post is to elevate awareness of Valmiermuižas and to extend a heartfelt invitation to fellow beer enthusiasts visiting Latvia, or possibly even Estonia. If you find yourself in the region, do not miss the chance to seek this craft beer out; it’s a treasure that deserves to be experienced.
As I prepare for my upcoming move back to the United States, I’m coming to terms with the possibility that my attempts to bring Valmiermuižas into my life from Germany won’t be any easier in my home country. For now, I can only dream of the days when I can savor that distinct flavor once more. So, to all the beer lovers out there—make it a point to taste Valmiermuižas; you won’t regret it!
