Discovering Valmiermuižas: A Hidden Gem for Beer Enthusiasts
If you’re a craft beer lover, there’s a Latvian treasure you absolutely must know about—Valmiermuižas. Pronounced VAL-meer-MWOY-zhahs, this exceptional brew has captured the hearts of many, yet it remains a mystery why it’s not available for export, not even in neighboring Western Europe.
During my three-year stint in Riga, I became an avid fan of Valmiermuižas. To say I indulged in this delightful beer would be an understatement. Having lived in various parts of Europe—Italy and Germany, among them—I attempted numerous times to import this remarkable beer. Unfortunately, the shipping costs were astronomical, with a single case running into the hundreds of dollars. Maybe one day I’ll have the financial freedom to splurge, but alas, that day isn’t today.
This post is primarily dedicated to shining a light on Valmiermuižas. If you’re planning a trip to Latvia or perhaps even visiting Estonia, I highly recommend seeking out this craft beer and giving it a try. It’s a pivotal part of the local culture and definitely worth experiencing firsthand.
As I prepare for my upcoming move back to the States in a few months, I can’t help but feel disheartened at the prospect of not being able to enjoy my beloved Valmiermuižas stateside. If I couldn’t navigate the complexities of ordering it while in Germany, I have serious doubts about finding it once I’m back home. So, if you find yourself in Latvia, don’t miss the chance to sip on this captivating brew—you might just find your new favorite beer. Cheers!
