Some pictures of the wine I found in the storage unit I bought! I would have thrown it all away if not for the community

Discoveries in an Unexpected Storage Unit: A Wine Enthusiast’s Journey

Recently, I stumbled upon a fascinating find while exploring a storage unit I purchased—I came across a collection of wine that left me both excited and perplexed. Initially, I considered discarding the entire lot, but thanks to the support of the wine community, I decided to take a closer look.

As I delved into my discovery, I learned that many of the vintage white wines in the collection weren’t suitable for keeping due to poor ullage levels. For those unaware, “ullage” refers to the space between the wine and the cork, which can indicate whether a bottle has been properly stored over time. I certainly never expected to familiarize myself with such terminology!

With this newfound knowledge, I opted to retain about twenty bottles from the lower-end selections from 2017 onward. Additionally, I’ve chosen to keep a couple of Opus One bottles for personal enjoyment and to deepen my understanding of wine. Each bottle represents an opportunity for me to learn more about the art of wine tasting and appreciation.

This unexpected journey has not only expanded my collection but has also highlighted the value of community knowledge. It’s amazing how sharing insights can transform a potentially wasteful situation into a rewarding experience. I look forward to what else I might uncover as I continue to explore this new interest!
