Can’t Drink Anymore

A Toast to New Beginnings: Embracing Change in the Face of Adversity

Dear Readers,

Today, I find myself in a unique and bittersweet situation, one that I believe many of you might relate to on different levels. As a passionate advocate for craft beer and a longtime aficionado, I have to share some not-so-great news. Due to a recent medical decision, I am now required to step away from drinking altogether.

It’s a strange feeling for me, especially since my career revolved around the beer industry. Craft brews, tastings, and brewery tours have not only defined my life’s work but have also shaped my social interactions and personal identity. I often joke that my reputation precedes me as “the beer guy.” So, the prospect of refraining from this beloved pastime feels like losing an integral piece of who I am.

According to my pharmacist, the new medication I’m taking mandates avoiding alcohol, as drinking could lead to severe withdrawal symptoms. While I understand the necessity for this change, it doesn’t lessen the emotional turbulence that comes with it. It feels like I’m bidding farewell to an old friend—a friend that has been by my side through many celebrations and gatherings.

Still, I maintain a positive outlook as I navigate this new chapter of my life. Instead of dwelling on this loss, I want to celebrate the joy that craft beer has brought to my life and to all of you. So, I encourage you, my fellow beer enthusiasts, to raise a glass in my honor. Savor that craft creation, relish the bubbles, and don’t forget to toast to the memories we’ve shared over a pint.

Here’s to new beginnings, embracing change, and honoring the past while looking forward to what lies ahead. Take a moment today to celebrate your favorite brew and the community around it.

Cheers to the journey ahead!
